Piano Lesson Plans: Teaching Landmark C's on the Grand Staff
Streamlining my piano lesson assignment plans to online documents including virtual links allows my students easy access to learning videos and song samples all in one place. This post includes specific instructions for pieces in the Piano Adventures Lesson Book 1 but many of the activities could also be used with any method book to introduce the 3 C's on the Grand Staff. I like to use the names Leila Viss suggests for the different Cs on the grand staff.
UNIT 3: THREE C’S ON THE GRAND STAFF
Lesson: Red LB 22 C’s Rock
Choose a different color for Bass C, Middle C, Treble C and color them on the grand staff above and in your song.
Prepare by placing the correct finger on the Treble and Middle C’s that you play for the first line.
* Can you play with a steady rhythm?
Optional Game: TPT Heave Ho Ho or HPN Slapfish C’s
Lesson: Red LB 23 Mozart’s Five Names
Do Rhythm Aerobics as you listen to Mozart’s Five Names. Stomp the beat with your feet as you clap the rhythm with your hands.
*Can you prepare to shift to new positions and play without pausing between measures?
Game: VMT Pit Stop (Terms and Signs Review) or PN Dynamic Memory
Lesson: Red LB 24 Paper Airplane
Sight sing using solfa as you listen to the song (Do, re, mi, fa, so, fa, mi, re, do, mi, so etc.)
Challenge: Transpose to a different scale
Watch Create First New Day, New Way Solo and Duet. Then create your own melodies using the notes from the C pentascale.
Optional Game: HPN Scale Memory Match- “InTreble with Bass”
Lesson: Red LB 25 The Juggler
As you listen to The Juggler, tap the rhythm with the correct hand on the fallboard. Remember R.H. crossovers on line 3 and 4.
*Can you play with a steady beat and bouncy short staccatos?
Optional Game: SP Music Staff Battleship (Treble Clef)
