The Girl and Her Bunny - National Composition Contest Winner!

Being a piano teacher makes me happy! My new student Clara, is just one of the delightful children I get to spend time with each week. It made my day today to hear that she was recently featured on the news for winning the National Let's Play Music Composition Contest.

or  Download her free piece "The Girl and Her Bunny"  and other student composition winners.

I loved hearing her play this composition for me at her first lesson, which she wrote while she was in Let's Play Music. I can't wait to see what she'll Surprise Me with for the Halloween Don't Scare Me Surprise Me Challenge in my studio this upcoming month.

Not every student loves to compose, but I find that when they start early they are less inhibited and the creative process boosts their musicality and desire to practice!

Seasonal Composing Resources

If you are not sure how to start incorporating composing and improv in your music lessons you can get some ideas from my earlier post Composition 101: 5 Avenues to Begin.

There are also so many amazing resources online, and many are free! It helps to incorporate a little something new each month that I can use with my whole studio at the same time. I compiled some of my favorites to share with my local music teachers' association each month while I was the composition festival assistant.
