I was delighted to discover the new 2024 Youth theme song for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is now on the Sacred Music app. The vocal solo/piano sheet music is in a different key than the music on the app, but I love how it includes chord symbols so my piano students can play the melody over varying levels of left-hand accompaniments.
Rhythm Augmentation
At piano group lessons I'll be teaching how augmenting the rhythm can help simplify less familiar sixteenth note and tied rhythm patterns. This example below shows the first measure rhythms of the "Disciple of Christ." Would you rather read the top or the bottom?
By doubling or quadrupling the note values of a measure you can "augment" rhythm patterns into bite-size pieces that are much more familiar and therefore easier to master at a slow pace.
The top example would typically be counted using 1e+a, 2e+a, 3e+a, 4e+a, but I find some students can tackle this rhythm a lot easier by thinking of each group of sixteenths as a measure and instead counting 1234, 1234, 1234, 1234.
The process of augmenting a rhythm really solidifies their knowledge of rhythm relationships and subdivisions!
