Practice Tips for Fast Passages
Watch Graham Fitch's Masterclass on Runs and Fast Passagework (1:20) and apply his tips for specific practice strategies to play the fast passages in measures 5-10.
1. Start with slow practice and use consistent fingering with articulate fingers or finger staccato.
2. Group notes with accents using various rhythms (BEE-tle, CAT-er-pill-ar, Dotted Long Short, Short Long etc.).
3.Stop on struggle notes or practice "puzzle piece chunks" of music.
4. Practice slowly with exaggerated musical shaping.
5. Consider and focus on the lateral arm, or circle wrist movements and fluttering or active fingers that work best for your music.
