Improvisation

Choose an improv activity below.

Improv Activity 1

Watch the Create First Secret Dance or Cuba video and then create your own improvisation using Latin syncopated rhythms.

Improv Activity 2

Listen to the syncopated rhythms of Create First Bueno! Duet and Solo.  Improvise your own piece using similar left-hand chord patterns and syncopated rhythms in the melody.

Improv Activity 3

Create your own Latin-style piece using the Andalusian Cadence
Many Spanish-style pieces include this simple repeating walkdown chord progression.  It's easiest for me to think of the chords and how they relate to C major/a minor. Remember the G# when you play the E Major chord!

Listen to this sample Spanish Dance from Piano Pronto 2 to hear the Andalusian cadence then improvise your own syncopated melodies over the same chord progression.

Theory

Practice tapping along with the Spanish style rhythms in the video
