 Music Samples and History

Theory

Color the L.H. chord pieces on p. 35-36  I, IV, V7.
Follow these steps to help you identify chords on the staff for Power Pages #10

Step 1: Find the root of the chord.

For chords in root position like a snowman, the root is the bottom note.
For inverted chords remember "the note above the gap is the root."

Step 2: What degree or number is the root note within the scale or key signature?

Write the scale degree using roman numerals (1=I, 2=ii, 3=iii, 4=IV, etc).

Step 3: If the chord is inverted write the intervals next to the Roman numeral.

1st inversion top heavy = I 6
2nd inversion bottom heavy = I 6/4
